SOAR OVER ZAMBIA ON THIS 11 DAY LUXURY FLYING SAFARI. YOU BEGIN AT TWO DIFFERENT REMOTE SAFARI CAMPS IN THE VAST SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK. HERE YOU WILL SPOT WILDLIFE ON FOOT AND IN OPEN SAFARI VEHICLES. YOU THEN FLY TO THE LOWER ZAMBEZI WHERE YOUR CAMP IS SET AT THE CONFLUENCE OF THE CHONGWE RIVER AND THE MIGHTY ZAMBEZI. ENJOY GAME DRIVES, BOATING SAFARIS AND CANOEING. YOUR SAFARI ENDS WITH TWO NIGHTS ON THE BANKS OF THE ZAMBEZI, JUST UP RIVER FROM THE FALLS.

DAY 1 - LUSAKA / MFUWE - SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK
Depart Lusaka this morning on your scheduled flight to Mufwe, a small town bordering the northern edge of the vast South Luangwa National Park, one of Africa’s largest. The Luangwa Valley marks the end of the Great Rift Valley which stretches all the way up to Kenya. Unlike most countries, Zambia allows and encourages walking safaris in it’s National Parks. South Luangwa is famous for this, though you will also explore the area in open vehicles.

After touching down you will be met by a guide from Nkwali Camp and make your way through colorful local scenes of villages and small farms, then the bush to the camp which is located on a large private wildlife concession boarding the park.. The camp overlooks a wide bend of the Luangwa River into the South Luangwa National Park and is ideally situated for the start of your safari. The area is covered with ebony woodland and open grass plains. Elephants often cross the Luangwa River and come to the waterhole near the thatched dining room. The 6 guests chalets are cool and spacious, overlooking the river. Access to the park is through the main entrance over the bridge, by boat or by our nearby pontoon. The area is famous for leopard and giraffe sightings. The wildlife in this area is excellent - and includes many family herds of elephants and the endemic Thornicroft Giraffe.

A typical day at Nkwali has you waking with the dawn to enjoy breakfast round a camp fire before heading out on your morning activity. A picnic lunch can be enjoyed on the bank of the lagoon, which is frequently visited by the local wildlife. The afternoon is the quiet part of the day - for siesta or swim in the pool. In the mid-afternoon you meet up with your guide before heading out for an evening adventure, finding a beautiful location to watch the sun go down with a drink in hand. The opportunity to discover the nocturnal world by spotlight is a wonderful treat before heading back to Nkwali for dinner.
Overnight - Nkwali Camp (L, D & activities)

DAY 2 - SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK

DAYS 3/4/5 - SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK
After an early breakfast, depart on a game drive through the park and across the river into the Nsefu Sector, which is known as a phenomenal game viewing area. Your stay here will be at Tena Tena Camp, set ina stunning location on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River. A grove of mahogany trees shade the large 4 large custom-made gests tents. The dining room is on an elevated deck overlooking the lagoon, where you can watch an assortment of animals that come to drink. Nearby there is a spectacular lagoon, Buca Buca, where a whole morning can be spent quietly sitting while the wildlife comes down to feed and drink.

During your time here you will have the opportunity to drive or walk through the ebony groves or, depending on the heat and time of year, to explore further with an all day picnic drive to the salt pans that will cover different habitats. You can also visit the community at Kawaza Village to experience life in a real ( non-tourist) village.

DAYS 6/7/8 - LOWER ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK
This morning you will have a chance to spot wildlife on your way to the Mfuwe airport, where you will board the scheduled flight to the magnificent Lower Zambezi National Park. The flight may stop in Lusaka (about 4 hours total). As you fly into the area, you will see the wide Zambezi River, dotted with islands. Buffalo and elephant are usually seen feeding along with the pods of hippos that rest on the edge of the sandbanks. The Lower Zambezi National Park is Zambia’s newest wildlife reserve. This remote park lies in the Lower Zambezi Valley between the rolling hills of the hazy escarpment and the Zambezi River. Part of the park is sprinkled with reed islands, which provide refuge and food for many of the animals here. These waters are a focal point for Elephant, Hippo, Buffalo, Zebra, Lion, Leopard, various antelope species, plus Baboon, Vervet Monkeys and an amazing array of birds.

Your stay here will be at the luxurious Chongwe River Camp which looks onto the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi rivers, along with mountains of the escarpment to the north. Situated under a canopy of Albida thorns and surrounded by cool lawns, the 8 gests chalets are large safari tents under thatch, with luxury ensuite open air bathrooms. All fittings are made from natural materials found near the lodge.

At Chongwe there are various activities to choose from. Not only on offer are exciting day and night drives and bush walks, but guests can choose their own day's itinerary from a selection of canoe trips, river safaris on safe, stable pontoon boats and catch & release fishing for the infamous large toothed tiger fish.
